Bike / Cycling Accidents

  1. You have two years to bring your claim from the date of the accident.
  2. Ensure the accident is reported to the Gardai immediately or as soon as possible.
  3. You can still bring a claim even if you do not know the details of the third party.
  4. Be sure to take photographs at the scene of the accident and the damage.
  5. Make sure you keep the bike and your clothing until advised otherwise. These items could be important pieces of evidence.
  6. It is important to make sure your bike is in good condition, that you are wearing your helmet and that your lights are on. Otherwise, in the even of an accident, you could be found to be contributory negligent i.e. that the accident was partly your own fault.
  7. If you are injured, you should seek medical attention as soon as possible after the accident.
  8. If there is some contributory negligence on your part (i.e. that it was partly your fault,
  9. Your solicitor will generally begin the process of the claim by requesting a medical report from your treating doctor and submitting the claim to the Injuries Board (“PIAB”).
