Road Traffic Accidents involving Passengers
Some things to know:
- If you have been a passenger injured in a car accident, you may be entitled to compensation.
- You have two years to bring your claim. Because of the time limits in personal injury cases, you should seek legal advice as soon as possible.
- You can still bring a claim if you have been in a collision with an unidentified or uninsured driver;
- You can make a claim for compensation even if you were not wearing your seatbelt or you were drunk or some other similar reason.
- If you have been injured, you should seek medical attention as soon as possible.
- If you are a passenger on a bus which crashes you can bring a claim.Even if you don’t know or are not sure of the third party details, you should speak to your solicitor as soon as you can.
- Your solicitors will most likely be able to clarify these issues.
- In order to commence your case, your solicitor will see a medical report from your treating doctor and then submit your claim to the Personal Injuries Assessment Board (PIAB).
- If you have had prior injuries, claims or the accident has exacerbated existing medical conditions, you can still bring a claim and should immediately speak to your solicitor.
- It is a good idea to take photographs of the vehicles and the damage at the scene of the accident and perhaps take a note of what was said and what you remember about how the accident occurred.
